The C12 ECM failures we see most

C12 modules share their electronics with the 3406E and C10, so they fail the same ways and repair the same ways.

Dead cylinder or rough idle that follows the ECM

What you see: A miss or dead hole that stays after an injector swap, or a cutout test where one channel does nothing.

What's happening: Injector driver failure inside the module.

What we do: We rebuild the driver circuit and bench-fire every injector channel.

No communication with Cat ET

What you see: The engine may or may not run, but no tool will connect. Cannot read codes, cannot program.

What's happening: Data-link circuit failure in the ECM.

What we do: We restore the data link on the bench so it can be read and programmed again.

No power-up or intermittent shutdown

What you see: Dead key-on, or the engine stalls when it gets hot or hits a bump.

What's happening: Internal power supply, cracked joints, or corrosion on the connector side of the board.

What we do: We repair the supply and connector faults at the component level and thermal-cycle the module on the bench.

Multiple sensor codes at once

What you see: Throttle, boost and pressure sensor codes together that do not clear with new sensors.

What's happening: The ECM 5-volt sensor supply is shorted or sagging.

What we do: We repair the sensor supply and verify each channel before it ships.

Don't see your exact symptom? Send it in anyway. We bench-test every unit before we tell you what's going on, and if we fix it the diagnostic cost you nothing.

How the repair goes

  1. 1

    Ship it in

Self-ship free, or add a prepaid UPS label. Drop-offs in Princeton, MN by appointment. Include your engine serial number.

  2. 2

    We test it

$350 bench fee, credited toward the repair. We tell you exactly what failed, usually within a day of receipt.

  3. 3

    We fix it

Injector driver repair, communication restoration, power-supply and 5-volt sensor supply repair, parameter recovery, whatever it needs. 2 days on the bench.

  4. 4

    Back to you

Programmed to your engine, every channel bench-tested, 2-year warranty. Status email at receipt, at diagnosis, and at ship.

C12 exchange units we stock

If yours is beyond repair, or the truck can't wait: remanufactured, bench-tested, programmed to your engine serial, 2-year warranty. Usually ships the same day.

Questions we get on C12 ECMs

How much does a Cat C12 ECM repair cost?

$745 flat, bench fee included. The $350 bench-test fee credits 100% to the repair. Not repairable? We tell you first and offer a tested exchange unit with the bench fee credited.

How long does a C12 ECM repair take?

2KS and MBL 70-pin modules are 2 days on the bench; 1YN and 9NS 40-pin modules about a week. Plus 1-3 days return shipping.

Does the repaired ECM come programmed?

Yes. Send the engine serial with the unit and it ships back programmed and bench-tested.

Can a C12 ECM from a 3406E or C10 be used?

Often the hardware is shared, but the personality and parameters differ. If you are considering a swap, ask first; we can program a compatible module to your engine.
