Come build things that matter

Two seats open in Princeton, MN · Lab Assistant ($20-24/hr to start) · Electronics Repair Technician ($28-40/hr DOE)

The deal, straight up

I'm Michael. I run Northland ECM. This started as just me at the bench, and the work outgrew one set of hands, so the team is growing. A rising tide lifts all ships: this is a growing company, and the people who help lift it through good work and new ideas will be honored as it grows. I'm not looking for a warm body. I'm building a crew.

No corporate nonsense. Real money for real skill, the freedom to do the job right, and a ground-floor seat in something you'll help build.

The two seats

Electronics Repair Technician

$28-40/hr DOE, more for the right person

Diagnose diesel ECMs to the component: read the schematic, trace the signal with a scope, find the fault, fix it with fine-pitch rework, prove it on the bench.

You're at home here if:

  • You find the fault with a schematic and a scope, not a parts cannon
  • Your rework looks clean under the microscope
  • You trained for this (AAS/BS EET, military, avionics, biomed) or can prove the same skill at the bench

Lab Assistant

$20-24/hr to start · part-time to start, full-time if you prove bench-tech skills

Keep the lab and shop running while you learn a real trade. You'd start hands-on: cleaning and prepping ECMs, media blasting, photographing boards for our documentation library, teardown prep, and learning soldering at the bench as fast as you can pick it up.

You're at home here if:

  • You show up, take notes, and are careful with your hands
  • You want to learn electronics repair on the job, not in a classroom
  • No experience required. We train you at the bench, and the path up to the technician seat is real

What you'd actually do

Component-level repair

Fine-pitch SMD and through-hole rework on diesel ECM boards. Diagnose to the component, fix it, prove it works.

Bench testing

Run ECMs on the test bench, capture results, follow and improve the diagnostic procedures.

Build the tools

Help build the testers and diagnostic tools we use and sell: fixtures, test rigs, bench procedures. Techs grow into it. It's a growing shop, so everyone wears a few hats.

The deep end

This isn't ticket-queue repair. It's board-level work plus the deep end: embedded diesel ECM internals, reverse engineering, and building diagnostic tools from scratch. Diesel ECMs are boards almost nobody else in the country works on at this level. If you take things apart to understand them and get a kick out of hard technical problems, the runway here is long, whichever seat you take.

Formal electronics training - an AAS or BS in electronics engineering technology, or the military/avionics/biomed equivalent - is strongly preferred for the tech seat. That said, the bench is the real interview: if you're self-taught and can genuinely diagnose from a schematic, show me the work.

Pay & benefits, honestly

Tech seat: $28-40/hr to start, depending on experience - and I will go higher than that for the right person. Lab assistant seat: $20-24/hr to start, part time to start - prove bench-tech skills and it goes full time at tech pay. Either way, pay grows as you and the shop grow.

We're a growing company, and the benefits package is growing with it. What I can offer right now is solid pay for real skill, autonomy, and a real stake in where this goes.

Everyone's welcome at this bench. Northland ECM is an equal opportunity employer. Race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status - none of it changes what a clean solder joint looks like. If you can do the work, you belong here.
